History
The founders of Fabreana have a rich tradition in fine
shoes craftsmanship. Their family began developing their craft in
Denmark in the early 1900's. Laurs Madsen Thomsen, grandfather and great
grandfather of the current owners, started the tradition of shoe making
in 1910 in the small town of Vejle, Denmark. The company originally
specialized in clogs, but at the onset of WWI they were commissioned to
make boots for soldiers. After the war, the company went back to
designing and creating their esteemed clogs. Mr. Thomsen continued to
lead the company until his passing at the age of 90.
Mr. Thomsen's granddaughter and great granddaughter
are carrying on his legacy through their company, Fabreana. The two
women have over 20 years combined experience in the fashion industry and
one is an alumna of the Otis Parsons School of Design.
Their experience in the footwear design field, as well
as their love for fashion, led to the revival of the family company in
the fall of 2000. The clear mission of the company is to provide a
friendly, personal shopping experiance, far removed from the large
corporate retail stores.
